About this dive site

This dive site, Five Finger Reef, offers a unique underwater landscape characterized by long, parallel fingers of rock and coral separated by shallow sandy valleys. Situated within a marine sanctuary, it's a vibrant area suitable for divers and snorkelers of all experience levels, thanks to its maximum depth of 10 meters and an average depth of 5 meters. Access is flexible, reachable either by a lengthy surface swim from Secret Harbor beach or via boat.

Being a NO take area within the marine sanctuary, the reef teems with abundant and diverse marine life. Visitors can expect to encounter numerous reef fish, various types of rays, lobsters, and crabs. The presence of assorted cleaning stations provides fascinating opportunities to observe the intricate behaviors of the local ecosystem.

Five Finger Reef is an excellent site for both wide-angle photography of its distinctive topography and macro photography of its rich small-stuff inhabitants. Its shallow, protected nature makes it ideal for beginners, snorkelers, and freedivers. While no specific best time to visit is mentioned, the U.S. Virgin Islands generally offer excellent diving conditions year-round, with calmer seas typically outside of hurricane season (June-November).
