This dive site, Maya Corner, is found on the west side of Koh Phi Phi Lei, within the iconic Maya Bay, famously featured in the movie ‘The Beach.’ The dive commences just inside the bay’s northern entrance, guiding divers along the coastline in a northerly direction. The topography consists of a steep shelved reef interspersed with occasional wall sections, offering straightforward navigation for divers.
Maya Corner is celebrated for its abundant marine life, providing excellent opportunities to encounter both green and hawksbill turtles, with divers frequently observing two or three individuals per dive. Stingrays are sometimes present, and black-tip reef sharks are also common sightings. The reef structure supports a diverse ecosystem of typical Andaman Sea reef fish and various hard and soft corals.
The optimal period for visiting Maya Corner aligns with Thailand's dry season, typically from November to April, when calm seas and prime visibility prevail. Its relatively shallow depths and rich biodiversity make it a highly suitable location for both scuba diving and freediving enthusiasts. Snorkelers can also enjoy the vibrant underwater scenery and wildlife near the surface, making it an ideal spot for all water-based activities.
