This dive site, Garang Heang/Hin Klai, is a remote submerged pinnacle covered in vibrant coral. It is accessed by boat, typically involving a drift dive around the pinnacle due to its exposed nature. There is no known specific history or story associated with its discovery, rather it's celebrated for its untouched beauty.
The reef boasts healthy coral formations, providing a rich ecosystem for diverse marine life. Divers can frequently spot graceful Zebra Sharks (Leopard sharks) resting on the sandy bottom or cruising past. Schooling fish are a major highlight, with large groups of fusiliers, sardines, and snappers creating dynamic underwater spectacles. Moorish idols are also commonly seen among the coral.
The best time to visit Garang Heang/Hin Klai is generally during Thailand's dry season, from November to April, when sea conditions are calmer. Divers should be experienced due to potential strong or variable currents. Freedivers will find the depths suitable, but should also be mindful of conditions. Its less-frequented nature promises a more pristine and rewarding experience away from crowds.
