This dive site, known as Hin Klai (or Gareng Heng), is a beautiful submerged pinnacle located just 2 kilometers east of Koh Phi Phi. Starting at a depth of approximately 6 meters, the pinnacle gently slopes down to around 13 meters on its east side and reaches a maximum depth of 17 meters on the west. As a less-often dived site, it offers a tranquil experience, typically navigated by circling the pinnacle to observe its varied topography and marine inhabitants.
The vibrant underwater landscape is adorned with flourishing anemones, large barrel sponges, intricate gorgonian sea fans, and extensive staghorn coral gardens. The site is a haven for diverse marine life, including sightings of leopard sharks, blue spotted stingrays, and hawksbill turtles. Schools of snapper and fusiliers are commonly seen, alongside various butterflyfish, emperors, and damselfish.
The best time to visit Hin Klai, like most dive sites in the Andaman Sea, is generally between November and April when sea conditions are calmer and visibility is at its best. This dive site is ideal for both recreational divers and freedivers seeking a relaxed dive with abundant photo opportunities, particularly for wide-angle shots of the coral gardens and encounters with larger marine species.
