About this dive site

This dive site is the wreck of the trawling vessel Brenha, located northwest of the Guilhada rock near Mindelo, Portugal. The wreck rests on a sandy bottom, leaning against a stone and tumbled to starboard at a maximum depth of 27 meters. Divers typically navigate the site by locating the main hull structure, which offers an interesting exploration of its decks and exterior sections. The history of the vessel is that of a working trawler, now serving as an artificial reef.

The wreck acts as a habitat for various marine species commonly found in Portuguese coastal waters. Divers can expect to observe pout and wrasse swimming around the structure. The nooks and crannies of the wreck are ideal hiding spots for octopus, while congrer eels might be found sheltering within larger openings. Additionally, a variety of crustaceans, particularly lobster, can be spotted tucked into crevices.

This site offers an intriguing wreck exploration experience for divers with appropriate certification. While no specific best time to visit is provided, diving in Portugal is generally good from late spring to early autumn for warmer waters and better visibility. Highlights include discovering the remnants of the trawler and observing the marine life that has colonized it. For freedivers, the average depth of 13 meters allows for some exploration, but the maximum depth of 27 meters makes it more suitable for advanced breath-hold divers or scuba diving.
