This dive site, Kandu Thila, is an advanced dive located in the Rasfari Channel, north of Hilton Maldives Amingiri. Its position within this channel means divers should expect and be prepared for very strong currents, making it a thrilling drift dive. Navigation typically involves descending quickly and allowing the current to carry divers along the vibrant reef while observing the abundant marine life.
The reef itself is a spectacle of natural beauty, extensively covered with plenty of healthy hard corals. These formations create a rich habitat for a diverse array of marine animals. Divers can anticipate encountering large schools of various reef fish, numerous moray eels hidden within the coral structures, graceful anemones, impressive giant trevallies, and substantial groupers.
The best time to experience Kandu Thila, like many sites in the Maldives, is generally during the dry season from December to May, offering calmer weather and often excellent visibility. This site is a highlight for advanced divers seeking an exhilarating drift experience coupled with remarkable biodiversity and stunning coral landscapes. Due to the challenging conditions, it is not recommended for snorkelers or less experienced freedivers.
