This dive site, Big Mount, is a prominent pinnacle located at the northernmost point of Pulau Lima in Redang. Divers typically descend via a buoy line that leads to a depth of 18 meters. The pinnacle's tip is submerged at 14 meters, and its wall extends further to a sandy bottom at 32 meters. This site is renowned for its vibrant marine life and the potential for strong currents, requiring divers to be mindful of conditions.
The pinnacle is adorned with clusters of black corals, providing a rich habitat for various marine species. Divers can expect to encounter schooling Batfish, Trevally, and Rainbow Runners, along with impressive Barracuda. Big Mount is particularly famous for its whale shark sightings, making it a highly anticipated spot for pelagic encounters.
The best time to visit Redang generally aligns with the dry season, typically from April to September, when sea conditions are calmer and visibility is optimal. Divers should be prepared for potentially strong currents and possess good buoyancy control. While snorkeling might be challenging due to the depth of the main features, experienced freedivers may find the pinnacle's structure appealing.
