This dive site, known as "The Horseshoe," is an old coral quarry located at Mile Marker 35 in Big Pine Key, Florida. The coral excavated from this site was historically used in the construction of the famous Overseas Highway. Underwater, divers can explore an intriguing landscape featuring the remnants of an ambulance and a small boat, acting as artificial reefs within the quarry's calm waters. Its sheltered nature makes it a popular alternative when offshore sea conditions are unfavorable.
The Horseshoe hosts a variety of marine life, including spadefish, grouper, snapper, and grunts, which find refuge and sustenance within the quarry's environment.
