About this dive site

Stretching out to the edge of Ha'ano island, The Corner serves a bit of everything in one dive. It starts shallow on the reef top, then drops quickly off the end of the reef to around 30 m — and this is where the site's signature moment usually happens: huge schools of tuna arriving in formation like flying squadrons, the biggest fish, up to two metres long, leading from the front.

From the drop-off the dive runs back towards the island along a sloping reef that falls away to more than 50 m on its seaward side. Looking out into the blue you can pick up more tuna, giant barracuda and the occasional grey reef shark, while the slope itself is busy with butterflyfish, coral trout, wrasse, fusiliers and angelfish. Between the rocks hide moray eels, nudibranchs and lionfish.

The finish is the pretty part: crossing a sandy channel up to around 16 m, you reach a series of swim-throughs hung with large gorgonian fans and beautiful hard corals. In whale season this stretch of reef has produced humpback encounters, including at least one on scuba — a reminder of how wild this corner of Ha'apai still is.
