Sisters takes its name from the two medium-sized pinnacles that rise side by side at this spot south of Pangai, and between them they can hold almost anything. The landward side is friendly — reef at around 15 m — but on the seaward side the walls fall away dramatically to more than 80 m, giving the dive a real edge-of-the-deep feel without requiring deep diving to enjoy it.
The drop-offs are where to watch the blue: large schools of fusiliers stream past, and the walls collect pelagic visitors along with triggerfish, trumpetfish, sweetlips, coral trout, banded sea kraits, moray eels, giant clams and clouds of damselfish. Basslets swarm the upper reef in big numbers.
The tops of both pinnacles are critter territory. Slow down and search: leaf scorpionfish, scribbled pipefish, crabs and a long list of nudibranchs reward divers who spend their safety-stop time hunting the coral heads. It's an easy boat dive with two very different personalities — big-animal potential on the walls, macro on the summits.
