This dive site, also known as Yong Gasem Bay, is a charming and shallow bay located on Ko Phi Phi Don Island, specifically north-west of Loh Dalam Bay. It's renowned for its colony of crab-eating monkeys, which visitors frequently encounter on the beach and in the adjacent jungle. Underwater, the site offers a relatively calm and easy exploration of a vibrant reef system, with navigation typically involving exploring coral patches and sandy areas within the sheltered bay.
The bay's underwater ecosystem supports a variety of marine life suitable for close observation. Divers and snorkelers can expect to see colorful schools of parrotfish, bright yellow damselfish, and clownfish playing among sea anemones. Giant clams are also a prominent feature, adding to the site's rich biodiversity.
The best time to visit Monkey Beach is generally during the dry season, from November to April, when the weather is most stable and water clarity is excellent. Due to its shallow depth and calm conditions, it is highly suitable for beginners, snorkelers, and freedivers seeking an accessible and enjoyable reef experience. However, be aware of frequent boat traffic due to its popularity.
