This dive site, Barracuda Point/Batfish Bend, is located at the southern tip of Similan Island 5 in Thailand. It's primarily a reef dive that navigates between impressive rock formations and includes a small overhang, offering interesting topography. Due to potential currents, it is often conducted as a drift dive, guiding divers along the reef.
The site is teeming with diverse marine life. Divers can expect to encounter boxfish, delicate sea needles, intriguing sea snakes, and graceful turtles. Blue-spotted stingrays are commonly seen resting on the sandy bottom, and keen eyes may spot various nudibranchs and other macro life hidden within the corals.
The best time to visit the Similan Islands, including this site, is during the dry season, typically from November to May, when weather and sea conditions are most favorable, offering excellent visibility. Divers should be comfortable with drift diving techniques. This site is also suitable for freedivers and snorkelers, especially in shallower areas, but awareness of currents is important.
