This dive site, known as the Submerged Mountain (Montaña Hundida de l’Escull), is located off Spain's South Coast, passing Cap Negre. It's a unique topographical feature, challenging to locate without local knowledge, adding an element of adventure to the dive. The site offers an impressive underwater mountain landscape.
Beyond typical Mediterranean fauna, divers frequently encounter large Groupers, schools of barracuda (skewers), and occasionally graceful manta rays, making it a vibrant ecosystem. The diverse marine life thrives around the submerged structure.
The best time to visit is during calmer seas to aid navigation to this hidden gem, enhancing the chances of spotting large pelagics. Both freedivers and scuba divers can enjoy the varied depths and rich marine life, particularly the exciting prospect of manta ray encounters, with good visibility often complementing the experience.
