About this dive site

This dive site, Lagon de la Saline, is nestled just south of the Hermitage Pass, facing La Saline Beach in Réunion. It offers exceptionally clear and very shallow waters, making it an ideal spot for entry-level divers, snorkelers, and families. While the corals in the immediate area are mostly unhealthy, the expansive flats near the pass serve as a vibrant habitat, especially for varied reef fish.

The lagoon is home to a good diversity of reef fish, including colorful angelfish, intricate butterflyfish, and grazing parrotfish. Lucky visitors may also encounter young green or hawksbill turtles gracefully navigating the shallow waters. Despite the coral health issues, the abundance of fish life provides a captivating underwater spectacle.

Lagon de la Saline is best visited during calm weather to fully appreciate its crystal-clear visibility. Its extreme shallow depth makes it perfectly suitable for snorkeling and beginner freediving, allowing ample time to observe the marine life. Divers should be mindful of the very limited depth, making it more of an exploratory or training site rather than a deep dive destination.
