About this dive site

This dive site features the Douglas Skyraider, a unique AD-5N (A-1G) aircraft wreck, famously known for its role in WWII. The wreck lies intact on the seabed in fantastic condition, offering an incredible historical and photographic subject. It serves as a navigational landmark itself, easily explored by circumnavigating the well-preserved airframe which has now become a thriving artificial reef. Its exceptional state makes it a premier destination for aviation and wreck enthusiasts.

The Skyraider wreck has transformed into a vibrant artificial reef, teeming with diverse marine life. Divers can expect to encounter colorful Moorish idols, the distinctive banded sea krait, and various coral groupers. The reef also hosts an array of hard and soft corals that have colonized the aircraft structure, providing shelter and food for smaller reef fish and invertebrates, making it an excellent spot for macro photography.

The best time to visit the Douglas Skyraider wreck is generally during the dry season in the Philippines (November to May) when visibility is at its peak and weather conditions are calmest. Divers should be comfortable with depths up to 31 meters and ideally have wreck diving experience or certification to fully appreciate the site. Freedivers with appropriate training can also enjoy the shallower parts of the wreck, observing the abundant marine life. Ensure to bring an underwater camera to capture the unique blend of history and biology.
