About this dive site

This dive site is the El Capitan, also known as the USS Majaba, a historic wreck nestled in Subic Bay, Philippines. The ship played a role in the intense Pacific War battles. Resting on a shallow reef slope, its average depth is 10 meters, with a maximum of 20 meters, often visible from the surface despite murky conditions. Divers can easily navigate its structure.

The wreck has transformed into a vibrant artificial reef, teeming with diverse marine life. It hosts a variety of reef fish, along with schools of spadefish and sweepers. Jacks, colorful butterflyfish, elusive groupers, and distinctive trumpetfish are commonly sighted, making it a lively ecosystem.

This site is suitable for divers of all experience levels, including beginners. Its shallow depth also makes it ideal for freediving and even snorkeling, as parts of the wreck are often visible from the surface. While visibility can be murky, the historical significance and abundant marine life offer a rewarding experience year-round.
