This dive site, Joy Corner, serves as the house reef for a nearby island, located on its north outside corner and accessible via a short 5-minute boat ride. The dive begins on a shallow top reef at 3 meters, featuring a gentle slope that extends deeper, transitioning into an overhang where the Joy Cave can be found at 20 meters. While the main dive for this site is typically within 15 meters, the topography offers interesting exploration opportunities along the reef structure.
Divers can expect to encounter a variety of marine life, including nurse sharks often resting in the coral block holes and whitetip reef sharks patrolling the slope. The reef is also home to several types of moray eels, turtles, and Napoleon wrasse. The coral formations, including the overhang and cave, provide rich habitats for a diverse ecosystem.
The Maldives generally offers excellent diving year-round, but specific currents and animal migrations might vary seasonally. This site is particularly suitable for beginners due to its shallow starting point and gentle slope, while intermediate divers can explore the deeper parts of the reef structure up to 15 meters. Both snorkelers and freedivers will appreciate the vibrant shallow reef and the chance to observe marine life close to the surface.
