About this dive site

This dive site, Embudu Express, is a world-renowned channel dive in the Maldives, famous for its exceptionally strong currents, sometimes reaching 5-6 knots. Divers typically perform a swift descent directly to the channel edge, often waiting at depths of 25-30 meters to observe passing pelagic life. There is no specific historical story beyond its reputation as a thrilling current dive.
The site is a magnet for large marine animals. Divers can expect close encounters with various sharks, including hammerheads, guitar sharks, grey reef sharks, and white tip reef sharks. Magnificent eagle rays and stingrays are common sightings, alongside impressive big barracudas, groupers, and schooling jackfish. Napoleon wrasse are also frequently observed patrolling the channel.
The best time to visit Embudu Express often coincides with specific tidal movements that bring in the strongest currents and, consequently, the most pelagic action. Divers should have advanced drift diving experience and be comfortable with negative entries due to the strong currents. While not suitable for snorkeling or casual freediving due to the depth and currents, experienced scuba divers find it an exhilarating experience.
