This dive site, Dhigu Faru Kuda Thila, is a small, beautiful Thila located in the vibrant Alif Alif Atoll of the Maldives. Divers typically initiate a negative descent to its reef top, situated at a depth of 10-12 meters, to navigate its interesting topography. The site is characterized by its abundant marine life, particularly when currents are present, which also allows for exploration around the Thila multiple times if currents are not excessively strong. Overhangs dot the reef, offering divers protection from the current and excellent vantage points for observing the bustling underwater world.
The Thila boasts a diverse array of marine inhabitants. Commonly sighted fish include large schools of fusiliers, sergeant fish, tunas, and jackfish, which are often attracted by the currents. The site is a frequent haunt for pelagic species, with whitetip reef sharks and majestic eagle rays making regular appearances. Delving closer to the reef, divers can discover beautiful black coral formations, often hosting fascinating hawkfish.
The best time to experience Dhigu Faru Kuda Thila is generally when currents are active, as this enhances the fish life and pelagic encounters. Divers should be well-prepared for a negative descent and possess experience in managing potentially strong currents. The protective overhangs are ideal for current-sheltered viewing. While the site's challenging currents and deeper reef top make it unsuitable for casual snorkeling, experienced freedivers may find it rewarding, provided they are proficient in current management.
