This dive site, known as Fish Head Thila or Mushimasmingali Thila, is an iconic underwater pinnacle in the Maldives, formerly celebrated for its vast grey reef shark populations. Divers typically perform a fast descent to the reef plate, which begins at around 10 meters, often navigating significant currents. The history of this site is rooted in its reputation as a pelagic hotspot.
The vibrant marine life at Fish Head includes large schools of fusiliers and blue striped snappers. Divers can also encounter moray eels, powerful tunas, and jacks. The site is particularly famous for its resident populations of whitetip and grey reef sharks.
The best time to visit Fish Head is when currents are strong, as this attracts an even greater abundance of fish and pelagic action. This site is best suited for advanced divers due to challenging current conditions. Freedivers with strong current experience may also find it suitable for its accessible depths.
