This dive site, Ras El Arab, is a highly favored location situated just 20 minutes by boat south of Makadi Bay. It features a stunning drop-off that begins right from the surface and plunges to a maximum depth of 80 meters, though the maximum recommended diving depth for recreational purposes here is 23 meters. Divers have the flexibility to experience the site as either a stationary dive, exploring specific sections, or as an exhilarating drift dive, riding the currents along the wall. Its reputation for excellent conditions and diverse marine encounters makes it a local favorite.
The vibrant ecosystem of Ras El Arab offers divers a high chance of encountering impressive pelagic species. Dolphins, various shark species, and turtles are frequently sighted here, drawn by the deeper waters of the drop-off. In addition to these large animals, divers can always expect to find the 'usual suspects' of the Red Sea, which include a rich variety of colorful reef fish, hard and soft corals, and other smaller invertebrates that contribute to the bustling reef life.
The best time to visit Ras El Arab is generally year-round, as the Red Sea offers consistently good diving conditions. For divers, this site provides an excellent opportunity for both underwater photography, especially wide-angle shots for the impressive landscapes and big animals, and for simply enjoying the dynamic marine environment. Freedivers will also find the site highly suitable due to the drop-off starting from the surface, allowing for progressive depth training and encounters with marine life in crystal-clear waters.
