This dive site, Nilson Reef, is a compact yet vibrant coral formation located just a short 6-minute speedboat ride from the coast. Its unique topography features an upper coral edge starting at a shallow 2-3 meters, gradually descending to 10 meters in the south and 15 meters in the north. Divers can explore extensive plateaus on the east and west, which are teeming with colorful hard and soft corals, offering a picturesque underwater landscape suitable for easy navigation.
The reef is home to a diverse array of marine life. Notable sightings include the impressive Napoleon wrasse, delicate nudibranchs, schooling barracudas, and camouflaged scorpion fish. Moray eels are also frequently spotted hiding among the corals. The vibrant hard and soft coral gardens themselves provide a rich ecosystem for countless smaller reef fish and invertebrates.
The Red Sea generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with the warmer months providing the most comfortable water temperatures. Nilson Reef's shallow upper sections make it ideal for both snorkelers and freedivers, while its maximum depth of 19 meters caters to divers of all levels. The site's close proximity to shore makes it a convenient and rewarding option for a quick, enjoyable dive or snorkel.
