This dive site is the Giannis D wreck, located in the popular Abu Nuhas reef area in Egypt. The wreck lies on its side, with the bow shallower (10m) and the stern deeper (21m max). Divers should be aware of the stern's orientation before entering to avoid disorientation. Navigation is relatively straightforward, following the wreck's structure. The wreck itself is a remarkable sight, with an intact engine room teeming with marine life.
The Giannis D is home to a diverse array of marine life. Divers can expect to see moray eels, scorpion fish, nudibranchs, lionfish, snappers, trevallies, napoleon wrasses, and octopuses. The mast and anchor winch are covered in soft corals, adding to the visual spectacle. Various other fish species inhabit the wreck and surrounding areas.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (spring and fall), when visibility is typically excellent and the currents are less strong. While the wreck itself isn't suitable for snorkeling or freediving due to depth and the wreck structure, this is an ideal dive site for experienced divers seeking a challenging and rewarding underwater experience. Always check weather and current conditions before diving.
