This dive site, East Chute, is a renowned wall dive located in the Cayman Islands, offering a vibrant underwater landscape. Divers typically start by descending through sandy channels to reach the top of the dramatic wall, which begins at approximately 13-15 meters (45-50 feet). The site also features a fascinating small wreck, the Cayman Mariner, resting in the sand at around 17 meters (55 feet), providing an additional point of interest and exploration along with a captivating swim-through.
The wall itself is a spectacular display of marine life, densely covered with diverse sponges and corals, creating a colorful habitat. The site is a popular gathering point for various reef fish, including active cleaning stations. Divers can expect to encounter barracudas, curious pufferfish, vibrant parrotfish, and graceful angelfish, along with a rich assortment of macro life inhabiting the wreck and wall.
The Cayman Islands generally offer excellent diving conditions year-round, with consistently warm waters and high visibility, making East Chute an accessible site for most of the year. Due to the average depth of 13 meters and maximum of 26 meters, it is primarily suitable for intermediate divers. While the site's main attractions are deeper, the top of the wall could offer some interest for very experienced freedivers, but the primary draws lie beyond typical snorkeling depths.
