This dive site, Eagle Ray Pass, is located on Grand Cayman's north side, characterized by a dramatic wall starting at approximately 17 meters (55 feet) and descending into the abyss. Divers typically navigate along the top of this wall, observing the vibrant chunky finger coral and sandy stretches leading towards the barrier reef. The site is named for the eagle rays often spotted here, making it a dynamic wall dive experience.
The marine life is abundant, offering sightings of sharks patrolling the wall, stingrays resting in the sand patches, and various reef fish such as trumpet fish, trunk fish, and schooling grunts. The healthy coral formations provide shelter and feeding grounds for a diverse ecosystem.
The best time to visit the Cayman Islands for diving is generally during the drier, calmer months from May to November, though conditions are good year-round. This site is excellent for divers comfortable with depth and wall diving, offering fantastic wide-angle photography opportunities. Freedivers will appreciate the clear visibility and the option to explore the shallower parts of the wall and sand patches.
