This dive site, Plateaux do Curralinho, is located quite close to the coast off Sal Island in Cabo Verde. Divers typically navigate along the plateau, keeping the rocky section on their right and exploring the interface between the rocks and the sandy bottom. The site is known for its hidden holes and crevices which harbor a variety of marine species. While there's no specific historical account, the dive offers a straightforward profile, making it accessible for a wide range of divers.
The diverse marine life at Curralinho includes common reef inhabitants such as Doctorfish, parrot fish, soldierfish, glasseye, trumpet fish, and damzel. Divers can also spot scorpian fish, various moray eels, and lobsters hiding in the rocks. Larger species frequently encountered include stingrays and turtles. Occasionally, lucky divers may even encounter more elusive creatures like Nurse sharks and Manta rays.
The Plateaux do Curralinho can be dived year-round, with late summer to winter often providing the best chances for spotting larger pelagics like sharks and manta rays. The site's average depth of 9 meters and maximum depth of 19 meters make it an excellent spot for both beginner divers and freedivers. The occasional drift currents add an exciting element, allowing divers to glide along and effortlessly enjoy the abundant marine ecosystem.
