This dive site features the Margueritte, a vessel that sank near the port of Recife after boiler explosions. Located only 2 miles from the port, this historical wreck lies at depths ranging from 10 meters to a maximum of 32 meters, with an average depth of 16 meters. Though largely dismantled by the explosion and time, visible parts of the wreckage can still be explored, offering a glimpse into its dramatic past where only two of ten crew members survived.
The Margueritte wreck, despite its proximity to the port, attracts a variety of marine life typical of artificial reefs in the region. Divers can expect to encounter various reef fish, crustaceans, and potentially small invertebrates that have made the metal structure their home. Encrusting corals and sponges also adorn the visible sections, adding color to the industrial remnants.
The best time to visit the Margueritte wreck is generally during the dry season for better visibility, though conditions can be variable due to port activity. Its diverse depth range makes it suitable for both beginner divers exploring the shallower sections (around 10-15m) and more experienced divers wishing to delve into the deeper parts down to 32m. Freedivers can also enjoy the accessible shallower sections of the wreck.
