This dive site features the Veleiro Yemanja, an iron sailboat intentionally sunk in May 1999 off Pina Beach, Recife. Lying at an average depth of 19 meters, with a maximum of 26 meters, the wreck is partially dismantled but remains a clear landmark. Divers can identify masts, mooring heads, and cavername, navigating around its structure. It serves as an artificial reef, offering an engaging historical and topographical experience for divers.
The Veleiro Yemanja provides a vibrant shelter for diverse marine life. Numerous schools of small fish congregate around the wreck, creating dynamic displays. Larger, friendly creatures frequently observed include docile nurse sharks, various rays, and majestic sea turtles, making it a lively ecosystem within a relatively contained area.
The best time to visit this dive site would generally align with the dry season or periods of calmer seas in the region for optimal visibility and comfort. It's an excellent site for both beginner and intermediate scuba divers due to its moderate depth and often mild conditions. While too deep for snorkeling, experienced freedivers may find the 19-meter average depth an interesting challenge, with the wreck providing a clear target.
