This dive site, Batelao de Cima, is the resting place of a small, historic ship that sank sometime between 1850 and 1900 off the coast of Brazil. The wreck itself lies at a depth of 25 meters, mostly buried in the sandy seabed. Divers typically explore the shallower areas of the site, with a maximum depth of 12 meters and an average depth of approximately 6 meters. Due to the vessel's age and its state of being almost completely buried, there is a distinct lack of visible structure remaining from the wreck.
The limited remaining structure of the Batelao de Cima provides little shelter, resulting in very sparse marine life. Divers should not expect to encounter a diverse array of fish species or elaborate coral formations here. The sandy bottom offers minimal habitat for small creatures, meaning both big and small marine animal encounters are rare.
The best time to visit this site would likely coincide with periods of calm seas and good visibility, though specific seasonal highlights for marine life are not applicable given its nature. This site is particularly suitable for beginner divers due to its shallow depth. Freedivers and snorkelers could also explore the area, though the lack of abundant marine life means it might not be the most engaging experience for them.
