About this dive site

This dive site, Carriere de Vodeleé, is an historic old marble quarry situated in the village of Vodelée, near Philippeville, Belgium. Divers can explore the remnants of past mining operations where pink and gray marble was extracted, with some formations still visible underwater. The quarry likely features intriguing rock structures and potentially submerged mining features, offering a unique exploration experience for divers.

The site boasts a rich variety of freshwater marine life, with many fish species commonly observed above 5 meters, including carp, pike, sturgeon, perch, salmon, and trout. Additionally, freshwater crayfish and duck mussels inhabit the well-preserved quarry. Larger sturgeon are typically found at greater depths, offering a special encounter for deeper dives.

Carriere de Vodeleé caters to all skill levels, with its shallower zones providing excellent conditions for beginners and snorkelers due to the visible fish population. More experienced divers can venture into the deeper sections to seek out sturgeon and further explore the unique geological formations of the old marble quarry. Optimal visibility is usually experienced during stable weather conditions typical of inland quarry environments.
