The Steps (Inscription Point) is a highly regarded shore dive, famous for its exceptionally easy entry via purpose-built steps leading directly into a rich underwater world. Situated within a sheltered bay, it's particularly renowned as a prime and reliable location to encounter the iconic Weedy Seadragon, often disguised among the kelp. Divers are recommended to explore this site during slack or incoming tide to fully appreciate its beauty.
The dive typically begins with a descent north towards a sandy line, then turning east to explore the bay. After approximately 40 meters, the kelp beds begin, transitioning into a rocky landscape abundant with beautiful sponge gardens and diverse fish life. Beyond the seadragons, you'll likely spot species such as Bream, Old wives, Luderick, Blue gropers, and Giant cuttlefish. The site features a sloping reef, small walls, and large boulders. Upon reaching your planned depth, return towards the shore, where a wall of large boulders often hosts Giant cuttlefish. Follow this boulder wall back to your entry/exit point. For those new to the site or keen on spotting seadragons, a guide is highly recommended for the initial dive.
