About this dive site

This dive site, Mackeral Bay, is nestled on the east coast of Hook Island within the stunning Whitsunday Islands. A popular snorkeling destination, the bay's coral reef is partially recovered after being impacted by a cyclone some years ago. Navigation is straightforward on the shallow reef flat, averaging about 1 meter depth with a maximum of 3 meters.

Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter diverse marine life amidst the soft corals. Common sightings include groupers, angelfish, butterflyfish, and occasionally larger creatures like rays and turtles. The recovering reef ecosystem offers a vibrant, albeit shallow, underwater experience.

The best time to visit is generally year-round, aligning with the Whitsunday Islands' peak seasons. However, be aware that underwater visibility can be variable and sometimes limited. This site is perfect for beginners, snorkelers, and freedivers due to its shallow depth and calm conditions.
