This dive site, Rock Island, is a secluded freshwater destination located within a lake, accessible exclusively by boat. Divers are advised to moor their vessel at the island and initiate their dives directly from the rocky shore. While the site primarily offers an average depth of approximately 5 meters (16 feet) and a general maximum depth of 11 meters (36 feet), a significant drop-off on the North-East side plummets to 40 meters (132 feet), providing diverse exploration for various skill levels.
The aquatic environment surrounding Rock Island is home to a variety of freshwater species. Divers can commonly observe blue gill, perch, sunfish, and both small and large mouth bass navigating the underwater structures. Additionally, bottom dwellers such as catfish and crayfish are frequently sighted, contributing to the vibrant ecosystem of this inland dive site.
To optimize the diving experience at Rock Island, visiting during the warmer months is recommended for more comfortable water temperatures. The site is well-suited for both scuba divers, catering to beginners in its shallower sections and offering challenges for intermediate and advanced divers in the deeper North-East area. Freedivers will also find the varied depths accommodating, and snorkelers can enjoy the clear, shallow perimeters for surface viewing.
