This dive site, Muelle de Azúcar, is located on the remnants of an old sugar plant pier, offering a unique historical underwater landscape. Divers can explore the sandy bottom interspersed with pier wreckage, which provides shelter and habitat for various marine species. Navigation is straightforward due to the shallow depths and clear visibility, making it easy to orient oneself around the structural remnants of the pier.
The site is teeming with a variety of tropical fish. Divers can expect to encounter angels, trumpet fish, lionfish, butterflyfish, and damsels, along with many other reef inhabitants. The pier wreckage creates an artificial reef, attracting a diverse range of marine fauna, making it excellent for marine life identification.
Muelle de Azúcar is suitable for both shore and boat diving, offering usually very good visibility and mild currents, making it an enjoyable experience for all levels. It's particularly good for underwater photography, both wide-angle of the wreckage and macro shots of the smaller inhabitants. Freedivers will also find the shallow depths and calm conditions ideal for exploring this unique site.
