This dive site is known as Tin Lizzy, an old tin mining dredger or excavator located approximately 2 kilometers offshore from Bangtao Beach, Phuket. The wreck itself, combined with surrounding concrete blocks, forms a substantial artificial reef structure. Divers can explore the remnants of the dredger and navigate around the concrete blocks, which act as a complex habitat for marine life, making it a prominent feature on the west coast of Phuket.
The site is teeming with a diverse array of fish species. Highlights for divers include the presence of stone fish, flatfish, seahorses, and the elusive ghost-pipe fish, making it excellent for macro enthusiasts. Larger inhabitants often spotted are bat fish, marble rays, scorpion fish, and impressive giant moray eels, all contributing to a vibrant underwater ecosystem.
Considered one of Phuket's premier dive sites, Tin Lizzy offers excellent opportunities for both scuba diving and freediving due to its accessible depth. The artificial reef structure provides ample photographic subjects for wide-angle and macro photography. Its shallow nature and rich marine biodiversity also make it suitable for snorkeling, offering a memorable experience for all water enthusiasts.
