This dive site, Stork Island or Koh Chi, features a distinctive sloping reef offering varied depths for exploration. Navigation can be challenging due to strong and unpredictable currents, making it primarily suitable for experienced divers. There is no specific known history or story beyond its natural formation as part of the archipelago.
The site boasts an abundance of marine life, including vibrant hard and soft corals, alongside large gorgonian fans. Divers can expect to encounter pelagic species such as reef sharks, barracuda, trevally, and snapper. Furthermore, Koh Chi is renowned for its diverse macro life, including various species of nudibranchs, shrimp, and crabs.
The best time to visit aligns with the dry season in the Andaman Sea, typically from November to May, when conditions are generally calmer, though currents remain a feature. Highlights include the healthy coral ecosystems and the chance for both large animal encounters and detailed macro photography. Due to the challenging currents, freedivers and less experienced divers should exercise extreme caution or choose alternative sites.
