About this dive site

This dive site features the Sea Chart Wreck, an 84-meter cargo ship that sank off Khao Lak, Phang Nga. The wreck rests at a maximum depth of 29 meters, with its shallowest point around 24 meters, making it an advanced wreck dive. Largely intact, the vessel now serves as a vibrant artificial reef, extensively covered in soft corals. Divers can explore its structure, which has transformed into a thriving underwater ecosystem, though detailed history beyond its identity as a cargo ship is often limited.

The Sea Chart Wreck teems with a diverse array of marine life. Commonly seen inhabitants include numerous lionfish, schools of batfish, various snapper species, and impressive huge schools of barracuda. Divers also have the exciting opportunity to encounter occasional whale sharks, which are drawn to this rich feeding ground. The wreck itself is draped in vibrant soft corals, providing both shelter and food for countless smaller creatures.

The best time to visit this dive site for optimal conditions and marine life sightings is typically during the dry season, from November to May, which is also generally the period for whale shark appearances in the region. Due to its depth and the potential for strong currents, the Sea Chart Wreck is recommended for advanced divers experienced in wreck diving and drift conditions. Freediving is not generally suitable given the depth and strong currents, and snorkeling is not possible.
