This dive site, Samran Pinnacle, is a substantial underwater rock formation located between the renowned dive sites of Sail Rock and Koh Tao in Thailand. The pinnacle starts at a comfortable depth of 9 meters and descends to 25-28 meters, with possibilities to explore deeper along the surrounding rock patterns. As an offshore pinnacle, it serves as an aggregation point for marine life, making it a popular and straightforward dive where divers typically circumnavigate the main rock structure.
The vibrant marine ecosystem around Samran Pinnacle boasts impressive schools of barracudas, fusiliers, and trevallies, often circling the main structure. Closer inspection of the main rock reveals a diverse macro life, including numerous hermit crabs, the elusive white eye moray eel, and the charming pink anemone fish nestled amongst corals and anemones. The site offers a good mix of pelagic and reef inhabitants, appealing to various diving interests.
The best time to visit Samran Pinnacle, like most of the Gulf of Thailand, is generally from May to October, although diving is possible year-round with varying conditions. This site is suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, with its shallow top offering excellent snorkeling opportunities and its deeper sections providing rewarding freediving challenges. Divers should be mindful of potential variable currents, which can enhance pelagic encounters but require appropriate experience.
