This dive site, Racha Yai Bay 2, is situated on the tranquil east side of Racha Yai Island. It offers a very calm diving experience, characterized by vast expanses of white sand interspersed with vibrant reef patches. A notable feature is a series of concrete artificial fish reefs, extending offshore, which serve as bustling shelters for numerous fish. Navigation is straightforward, following the sandy bottom and exploring the reef patches and artificial structures.
Divers can expect to encounter a diverse range of marine life. A highlight includes a thriving colony of garden eels gracefully swaying in the sandy areas. Keen observers can also spot various nudibranchs and cleverly camouflaged stingrays buried in the sand. Depending on the season, large schools of yellowfin barracuda, also known as Taiwan pike, are a spectacular sight, often seen roosting around the artificial reefs.
The calm conditions make this site an excellent year-round destination, particularly suitable for beginners and those seeking a relaxed dive. The best time to witness the large schools of barracuda can vary seasonally, so checking local dive reports is advisable. Both scuba divers and freedivers will appreciate the gentle environment, with freedivers able to explore the shallower reef patches starting at 5 meters. Its maximum depth of 18 meters provides ample exploration without challenging advanced skills.
