This dive site, Palong Bay, is located on the east side of Phi Phi Ley, just north of the renowned Maya Bay. It is considered a relatively simple dive, suitable for all levels, and is rarely affected by strong currents, ensuring calm conditions. Dives typically proceed south from Palong Bay towards Maya Bay, exploring the gentle slopes and sandy areas.
Palong Bay is best known for its resident population of turtles, offering frequent sightings for divers. Furthermore, leopard sharks are commonly encountered here, often seen actively swimming rather than their usual resting behavior on the sandy bottom, which provides a unique viewing opportunity.
The best time to visit Palong Bay and the wider Phi Phi Islands for diving is during the dry season, from November to April, when the weather is stable, seas are calm, and visibility is generally excellent. Its shallow maximum depth and mild conditions make it an excellent spot for both certified divers seeking an easy dive and for snorkelers and freedivers hoping to observe marine life close to the surface.
