This dive site, Jansom Bay, is located on the western side of Nan Yuan Island, very close to the popular diving destination of Koh Tao in Thailand. It's renowned for its calm conditions, particularly on days when the rest of the ocean might be rough, as it lies in the island's shadow. This makes it a fantastic, sheltered spot for all divers, especially beginners. Navigation is straightforward given its bay structure and shallow depths.
The marine life here is vibrant and diverse. Divers can expect to see healthy coral teeming with a variety of fish, including schools of different species. The sandy areas are home to numerous gobies, perfect for macro enthusiasts. Larger marine animals like great barracudas and turtles are also common visitors to the bay.
The best time to visit Jansom Bay, like much of the Gulf of Thailand, is during the dry season from May to September, though diving is possible year-round. Its shallow and calm nature makes it highly suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, as well as snorkelers. Tips include bringing a camera for both macro shots of gobies and wide-angle shots of the healthy reef and schools of fish.
