Chumphon Pinnacle is widely known as the top place to dive in the Gulf of Thailand. It's a big rock which starts about 14 to 16 meters below the surface and drops down to 36 meters, promises exciting dives and really clear water. Because it's out in the open ocean, away from the coast, you can often see more than 20 meters, with big animals visiting.
On top of the rock, there are vibrant carpets of pink anemone fish
There are grey reef sharks swimming regularly around the deeper parts near Barracuda Rock, which is 25 meters down. You can also 'ugly' grouper fish, barracuda, stringrays, moray eels. Curious batfish often watch divers as they go up the rope to the boat.
And for a truly special treat, whale sharks sometimes visit Chumphon a few times a year, with March to June as its peak season and September to November with casual sightings.
