This dive site, known as Starfish, is a remarkably shallow and serene area located near Pingwe on Zanzibar's coast. It stands out for its extraordinary concentration of sea stars, making it an easy and rewarding spot for observation. With a maximum depth of just 2 meters, navigation is straightforward, typically involving gentle finning over a sandy or soft coral bottom.
The primary attraction here is the abundance of sea stars, with hundreds of multicolored individuals representing at least five different species. Divers and snorkelers can also spot various small fish and other fascinating critters that inhabit this unique ecosystem, thriving in the shallow, protected waters.
The best time to visit Starfish is generally year-round, as its shallow nature makes it less susceptible to adverse conditions. It's perfectly suited for snorkelers, beginner divers, and macro photography enthusiasts looking to capture vibrant close-ups of the diverse sea star population and other small marine life.
