This dive site, known as Shanfu Boat Wrecks, is situated south of Shanfu Fishing Harbor on Xiaoliuqiu Island, Taiwan. It comprises five abandoned fishing boats deliberately lined up on the sandy seabed, providing a unique artificial reef structure. Divers can explore these wrecks, which range in depth, offering an engaging underwater landscape. Access is convenient, either by a short 10-minute boat ride or by entry from the shore's intertidal zone to the left of Shanfu Harbor.
The wrecks serve as a haven for a variety of marine life. Numerous small fish seek shelter within the holds of the fishing boats, creating vibrant scenes. Lionfish are frequently observed here, often found hunting among the structures. For those with keen eyes, there's also the exciting possibility of encountering larger pelagic species, with thresher sharks and other shark species having been sighted, particularly in the mornings.
The best time to visit for a chance to see sharks is during the morning hours. This site is suitable for a range of divers, from those comfortable with exploring wrecks to more experienced divers hoping for pelagic encounters. Freedivers will also find the wrecks and depths suitable for breath-hold diving. Divers should be mindful of potential boat traffic due to the proximity to the fishing harbor and respect the wreck environment.
