This dive site features the wreck of the Falken, which rests upright on the seabed with its bow sloping towards the shore in the waters near Stockholm, Sweden. Divers can navigate to the wreck by first locating a sign to the right of a bridge, from which cables extend underwater. After approximately 150 meters, these cables lead to a guideline that runs directly to the Falken. Key features of the wreck include a prominent chimney starting at about 6 meters depth, along with two accessible openings containing valves but no glass, offering a glimpse into its interior. Diving at this site requires a special permit from the Harbour Captain for Stockholm Harbours.
Given the cold temperate waters and often limited visibility characteristic of this region, marine life at the Falken wreck typically consists of hardy species adapted to such conditions. Divers may observe various small cold-water fish, crabs, and possibly some types of anemones or hydroids that have colonized the wreck's structure. Algae and other marine growths are also common, contributing to the wreck's ecosystem and providing shelter for smaller organisms.
The Falken is an excellent site for divers specifically interested in wreck exploration, offering an intact upright structure and accessible features for penetration. Due to the consistently limited visibility experienced year-round, divers should be comfortable with these conditions and possess good buoyancy control. Planning is crucial, as securing the mandatory permit from the Harbour Captain is a prerequisite for diving. While snorkeling is generally not recommended due to the depth and poor visibility, freedivers might find the wreck's accessible depth and structure appealing for breath-hold exploration.
