Margarita, also known as Cala Margarita, is a captivating dive site located near Puerto Marina in Palamós, Spain. It presents a unique underwater pinnacle or seamount, rising from the seabed, alongside a relatively shallow cove. Depths range from 2 to 18 meters, making it suitable for divers of all experience levels, including beginners learning navigation. The dive is generally straightforward with a calm underwater environment, though checking for typically mild currents before entry is advisable.
The site boasts spectacular red and yellow gorgonians covering the seamount walls, creating a vibrant landscape. Marine life is diverse and abundant, featuring famously large and docile groupers, moray eels, octopus, cuttlefish, sea hares, conger eels, and various rockfish species. Vibrant Posidonia seagrass meadows further enhance the underwater scenery, offering excellent opportunities for both macro and wide-angle photography.
Margarita is suitable for both scuba diving and freediving. The best time to visit is during the warmer months, from spring to autumn, when water clarity is improved and marine life is most active. Its proximity to a charming town adds to its appeal. As always, divers should be aware of their surroundings and dive within their limits.
