Cala del Mal Pas, also known as Cala Mal Pas, is a charming and sheltered cove located next to the port of Benidorm, Spain, nestled between the city's two main sandy beaches directly below the old town's cliffs. This easily accessible site is ideal for entry-level divers, snorkelers, and beginner freedivers due to its shallow, relatively calm waters and straightforward navigation along the 60-meter rocky shoreline. It's particularly recommended for very shallow training dives, refreshers, or night dives, offering a unique urban diving experience.
The rocky seabed supports a diverse array of Mediterranean marine life, making it a rewarding spot for observing smaller fish and invertebrates, as well as macro photography. Divers can expect to encounter salemas, sargo, various breams and wrasses, damselfish, and octopuses. Remarkably, eagle rays have been spotted here, and night dives can be particularly rewarding with the possibility of seeing dozens of giant butterfly rays.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (May-October) when water temperatures are most pleasant and visibility is typically at its best, though its sheltered position allows for year-round accessibility. Remember to check the weather forecast and be mindful of boat traffic near the port.
