About this dive site

This dive site, located along South Africa's scenic Dolphin Coast just north of Durban, consists of numerous shallow, rocky tidal pools naturally filled with seawater. These sheltered pools provide a calm, protected environment, making navigation simple and ideal for surface exploration. There is no specific historical narrative for a single pool, but collectively they represent a natural coastal feature offering safe interaction with marine life.

Within these clear, calm waters, snorkelers and shallow divers can discover a vibrant array of marine life. The pools boast a good variety of corals, excellent fish diversity, and a particularly rich population of nudibranchs and other fascinating sea slugs. Other small crustaceans and invertebrates are also common.

The Dolphin Coast tidal pools are best visited during low tide when they are most accessible and calmest, offering optimal viewing conditions. They are exceptional spots for children, beginners, and macro photography enthusiasts due to the abundance of small, interesting creatures in a protected environment. These sites are ideal for exploring marine biodiversity without strong currents or deep water.
