This dive site features the wreck of the Teigland, an old ship deliberately sunk to create an artificial reef. Initially resting on a ledge, it later rolled over and now lies alongside a vibrant natural reef at approximately 21 meters (70 feet) deep. Though the wreck is quite broken, its structure provides excellent shelter and navigation points for divers exploring its nooks and crannies.
Divers can expect to encounter a variety of marine life, including numerous moray eels and lobsters utilizing the wreck's crevices as hiding spots. The surrounding beautiful reef is teeming with diverse reef fish, and there is a notable chance of spotting majestic spotted eagle rays gliding past, making for an exciting encounter.
The best time to visit Teigland/Cable Reef is generally during Sint Maarten's dry season, typically from December to May, offering optimal visibility and calm conditions. This site is suitable for intermediate divers keen on exploring both wreck and reef environments. Freedivers will appreciate the manageable depths for breath-hold exploration of the reef and shallower wreck sections, while scuba divers can thoroughly investigate the entire site.
