This dive site, Moonhole, is a sheltered cove located approximately twenty minutes from Dive Bequia, making it accessible for diving on most days. The reef gently slopes towards a sand bottom, offering diverse diving opportunities anywhere between 20 and 80+ feet (approximately 6 to 16 meters). While generally calm, divers should be aware that strong and unpredictable currents, which can flow in either direction, may be encountered towards the northern corner of the site.
Moonhole is particularly celebrated for its exceptional macro life, especially seahorses; there's a recorded instance of spotting seven on a single dive. Beyond these elusive creatures, schools of southern sennet are frequently seen circling the reef, which is richly interspersed with various sea plumes, adding to the vibrant underwater ecosystem.
The site's sheltered nature makes it a reliable choice for divers, snorkelers, and freedivers seeking calm conditions. Its relatively shallow maximum and average depths are ideal for extended bottom times and for honing macro photography skills. While the main area is typically calm, being mindful of potential currents at the northern corner will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
